An interesting show this week if only from the perspective that 5 of the tracks are all sitting around the web just waiting to be downloaded for free, the first example of which is the show’s opening track from 18 year old Danish talent Bwoy De Bhajan, one to watch for sure. A taste of the new Donso album, the African sideproject of Krazybaldhead, followed and is just one example of the forward looking Afro fusion from the excellent Denfila album available now on Comet. So a show of two halves again with musical electronica (for want of a better description) kicking things off and the deeper, leftfield side of house with a bit of disco and Afro finishing things off. Nancy Elizabeth got things rolling with our favourite track from her new album on the, always intriguing, Leaf Label and some cultured electronic folk. Cloud Boat followed that up with a great slice of James Blakesque future folk and displayed why they supported the man on tour before we dropped the most musical and melodic track from the otherwise dissapointing Mount Kimbie album. King Garbage then picked up the baton and delivered his otherworlldy R&B mutation, “Telephone” but it could have been any of 4 tracks from his great new EP on Styles Upon Styles. Read more…

A nice deep selection this week kicking off with a track from the lovely new Saltland album on the, always worth checking, Constellation label. We then couldn’t resist dropping another track from the impeccably selected If Music/Ninja tune Record Store Day compilation and a great little introduction to the work of Henri Texier who we weren’t previously aware of. Calvin Keys then followed with a track from his killer, back in the day but now reissued courtesy of Snow Dog, album Shawn-Neeq, which has been on repeat all weekend. Deep Latin vibes then followed with another bygone classic, this time from the Cuban crew, Los Brito. Read more…

A show of two halves today, downtempo, soulful beats and bobs to start before the bassline and twisted house kicked in to shatter the quiet. Starting this weeks show was a track from the wonderful new project from Peter Wraight, arranger for the Matthew Herbert big band and his new project The Webster Wraight Ensemble before we dropped the most soulful cut from the intriguing recent release by Clouds on Ramp. Now we’ve been bigging up the Omar album recently from the sampler and it looks like the music is living up to the expectation. The album is a real soulful journey across the styles. Ty then followed up with some great Fela sampling hip hop before US soulboys Myron & E made a great first impression. Read more…

So it’s all about locking into the long groove this week with only 11 tracks making up this show and a fair bit of 4/4 to boot but a lovely slice of nu-soul, courtesy of Kyra Simone, kicked off the show from  the nice new lovers compilation, The Heart #3, on Tokyo Dawn Records who are probably about to create a baby boom if they release any more in the series. Another Record Store Day release then followed with the ever interesting Nicolas Jaar giving Grizzly Bear a nice slo-mo deep house twist which led into the outrageously sprawling and quite frankly, epic, Larry Gus remix of Sinkane‘s, “Warm Spell” which led into another equally epic track, the soon to be reissued “Boutade” from Mugwump – look out for that on International Feel in June. Quite a soulful vibe this week, kicking off with one of two tracks in the show from Omarand his wonderful remake of his 1990 classic “There’s Nothing Like This” taken from his new EP The Man which is boding very well indeed for the album. A sensitive Taylor McFerrin remix of “Come To My Door” from Jose James then followed before a hatrick of modern soul classics was completed by Sweatson Klank‘s “Morning After Pills” from his, now available, album on Project Mooncircle. Jazz was then the order of the day with the opening track from Kevin Beadle‘s stellar compilation, Private Collection, out on BBE Records. Read more…

New classical vibes kicked off this weeks show starting off with a taste of the Buddha Machine inventor’s new album Fistful of Buddha and then ably followed by a track from the live recordings of Jaga Jazzist’s concert with the Britten Sinfonia. Springintgut then provided another cultured tune from their fantastic and highly recommended, Where We Need No Map, album which is about to drop on the consistently great Pingipung label. The Herbertesque vibes of Jonatan Backelie then seemed like the sensible follow up and is a deep electronic grower. Read more…

There was a deep and slightly more experimental flavour to this weeks show kicking off with the most melodic offering from the new Tangent album which led nicely into a taster of the new J’s Bee album which truly is a thing of wonder. They are a ten piece Japanese group, mixing up the styles to lush effect before the Ambient Jazz Ensemble took up the cinematic mantle and ran full steam ahead with it. Letherette then changed the musical course with some future boogie beats, closely followed by more of the same from hot young Belgian talent Pomrad just about to release his EP on the ever interesting Earnest Endeavours label. Sweatson Klank then provided some thinking man’s hip hop before Khing Kang King took the “thinking man’s hip hop” tag to the next level and beyond. Read more…

Sublime deep house kicked off this weeks show courtesy of Isolee and the “Allowance“ title track from their new EP which led nicely into the Max Sedgeley like tones of Inch-time and “Time Of The Fire” before Mara TK hit us with some spiritual vibes from way down or New Zealand to be precise. Neve Naive then kept the vibes deep but with a dark undertone before the sugary soul of Inc. cut in with “Angel” the highlight of their pleasant new album on 4AD. Electronic soul started this weeks show with the voiceless, late night vibes from the forthcoming Simple EP on Apollo before Lapalux and Kaytranda threw down some lovely vocals over deeper than deep beats. Sweatson Klank then turned the airwaves blue with the single from his forthcoming EP on Project Mooncircle before Teleseen dropped the deep, underground tropical flavour from his new LP due out soon on 100% Silk which has been on repeat recently. Next up was the return of a little Portico Quartet/SBTRK action  before Nosaj Thing ably demonstrated, as did DJ Rashad last week that just because a song is 160BPM doesn’t mean it can’t have soul. Really happy this week to start the show with some brand new Bilal and to announce he has signed to the good old boys at BBE Records for his new album due out in March and if the first single is anything to go by then we are all in for a big treat. Next up was some jazz from a fantastic new compilation on Heavenly Sweetness who have managed to unearth some incredible, forgotten, jazz gems from various dusty French vaults. BJ Smith then provided a stellar version of the Mos Def classic, “Umi Says” which led nicely into a modern day French future underground classic with the debut single fromThe Mardo Bump Society and for sure it’s got the Bump. So Heidi Vogel starts off the show in super deep Brazilian jazz style with a little taste of her forthcoming album coming on Far Out. Mo Kolours then laid down the  down and dirty vibes with the sleazy, tropical delights of “Bomptious” which led nicely into the beats and big band jazz fusion of Mark De Clive-Lowe and a whole heap of Dutch jazz musicians. Then came a taste of blog, Moovmnt‘s, debut release as they take the leap from the written word to the musical note in fine style with an album of deep soul, jazz vibes courtesy of Vincent Helbers aka Flowriders and now aka Seravince. Weedy of 40 Winks kicked off this weeks show in his own inimitable, sample chopping style before we gave you a little taste of the new I’m Not A Gun album with the title track “Sub-Tones” – surely a future Balearic classic? Millenium then provided a peek of their new EP with some bass heavy, melodic vibes. Houndstooth is the new Fabric night club record label and they are about to drop their debut 12″ in February and if the Call Super debut’s quality and deepness are sustained they will get all the support we can muster. So another largely soulful, jazz flavoured show again this week kicking off with Headnodic from Crown City Rockers and his hip hop flavoured vintage fusion vibes which led nicely into the, equal parts sad and beautiful, “The Fall” from Rhye – great video as well. Daedelus then provided a taste of his free download EP he produced for the Scion A/V project and very nice it as well. This led nicely into up and coming, Lisbon based, producer DJ Izem and a glimpse of his new EP before Empt showed his talents by remixing Long Arm for the new deluxe version reissue of last years album, The Branches. So after a bit of a hiatus in the radio show at the end of the year we are glad to be back and spreading the musical word again. Azymuth got the show off to a fine fusion start with a track from the reissue of their classic album Light As A Feather which amazingly sold 500,000 copies in 1979 and spent 8 weeks in the UK top 20. The reissue will probably sell about 500 and the thought of its jazz fusion joys entering the UK mainstream charts are laughable, how times change. Greg Foat then carried on the jazz fusion vibe with a track from their great new album dropping round about now on Jazzman records. The first great discovery of 2013 has arrived in the shape of Lycoriscoris a young Japanese producer with a great debut album of deep electronica with some soothing jazz flavours and a great listen start to finish. So quite the mellow selection this week kicking off with the killer title track from the thoughtful new Yoggyone album which we like a lot. Sunday morning listening was then the order of the day first with a bit of Ky, whose new album floats and swirls around you in a dreamy, jazz sort of way. Matthew Halsall then kept up the mellow jazz vibes with the title track from his incredible new album which was on repeat most of last week. Brazilian pysche business then ensued courtesy of a brilliant Mr. Bongo reissue of the Flaviola E O Bando Do Sol, back in the day, rarity – good digging.
