We start the first of a three part series on Japanese electronic music with a focus on ambient. We open with two tracks from a pair of the greatest ambient album of all time, starting with Tetsu Inoue’s “Ambient Otaku” which is frequently held up with Aphex Twin’s “Seleted Ambient Works” as an essential example of the genre. Buddhastick Transparent are much less known and their work is a lost masterpiece of spiritual chill out. Tokyo-based sound artist Yui Onodera forms the focus of the show as we highlight several of his pieces and the key concepts behind his work. Finally, we close with recent tracks from Sawako, newcomer Yuya Ota and Illuha.
