Audio Texture Radio Show – January 27, 2014

Another deep jazz cut from Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo then stirred the show from its slumber and paved the way fro Titts‘ chopped and screwed bassline vibes, which led nicely into some submerged soul from Actress, closely followed by quality beats from Barcelona based Fitzroy North, snagged from his soon to come EP on Tiburoni. CdV P070: Modern Love and Andy Stott

Since 2002 the Manchester based label Modern Love has represented a sort of litmus test of where current electronica is at. With the restless and predatory curiosity of a cat they have stalked out the forever opening frontiers, shifting from dub techno, to dub step and drum n bass, and then on to knackered house, dark ambient and now noise. But Modern Love has been an innovator of these trends and not a follower. One of their most lauded artists is Andy Stott who has been behind some of the most seminal albums and new sounds, over the last few years. This week we share the respect between the two, focusing on some new releases from label and some essential remixes from Andy Stott.

CdV P070: Modern Love y Andy Stott

CdV P068: Best of 2013 – electronica

One of the most notable trends in electronic music in 2013 was the dominant impact of albums from artists working in left field and ambient-leaning electronica. It seemed that a great number of artists fully assimilated into the album concept and delivered masterpiece works that used the format to all its strengths while pushing themselves to unleash their sound in more unpredictable ways. CdV P064: Electronica special

It is the last of our normal shows this week before we start a four part round-up of the best of 2013. We start with Roly Porter’s epic and dramatic track “Gravity” before turning down a cul-de-sac of experimental beat collages from _moonraker, Objekt and Diskotopia boss BD1982. Daniel Avery and Vester Koza steady the ship with some dreamy and trance-inspired techno and finally we close off with two tracks from Young Echo and Machinedrum that distort and rejuvenate the conventions of the vocal-pop song that feed nicely into Spanish artist Warmth’s chill out piece. Audio Texture Radio Show – October 21, 2013

A nice soulful selection in a roundabout sort of way this week, a week when Boards of Canada have been releasing their back catalogue for all those slow on the draw the first time around. The new Om Unit album on Civil Music is a pleasant surprise with it’s pleasing musicality and some nice vocal touches, ably demonstrated by “The Road” featuring Charlie Dark. Some future hip hop then followed from Thriftworks and a track we plucked from the excellent new Project Mooncircle compilation showcasing artists new and old before The Poets of Rhythm reminded the show of their soul credentials. Audio Texture Radio Show – September 23, 2013

Quite an experimental, cosmic sort of vibe going on this week kicking off in lovely melodic style though with Noveller‘s “Bright Clouds Bloom” which led right into the submerged jazz beats of Ahnnu before Submerse waded in with some fine instellar beats from his new Project Mooncircle release.

CdV P047: Ambient special

For those in the Northern hemisphere suffering a late summer heat wave, we start the program in the icy realms of Frozen Thoughts on the Glacial Movements label. We stick to the shadows with Sleeper and Savvas Ysastis’s collaboration with 12K’s Taylor Deupree before a quiet religious moment with Aquarelle. Then for those whiling away the cold winter months in the southern hemisphere we turn to the tropical island sounds of Tuluum Shimmering and Xiphiidae, both on Aguirre records. For the finale it is a downward spiral as only the ever prolific Bvdub and Black Swan could provide. All the travelling is inside your head this week on Cabeza de Vaca and Scanner FM. Read more…
