Audio Texture Radio Show – June 16, 2014

One of those old soul boys who are still doing it, Lee Fields, kicked off the show this week with a track from this new album out on Truth and Soul which paved the way nicely for some woefully short, yet super souful, beats from the one and only Madlib. Read more…

CdV P087 World Cup special

Cabeza de Vaca loves the World Cup. It’s a chance to collect a new set of Panini, to go to the pub and watch three matches of elite football every day for a month and to listen to your favourite football tracks, and with every world cup there’s always a new one, usually by Pique’s wife Shakira. There’s no Shakira or Pique here, but no need, as like the World Cup, Cabeza de Vaca likes to range across land and sea to gather in the best of the best. This week we celebrate 50 years of World Cup and football with tunes and styles from as far afield as Norweigan rap, Japanese jazz, 60s rockabilly, 90s electronica and techno and of course the timeless Kevin Keegan. Audio Texture Radio Show – May 5, 2014

It’s not often we devote 20% of the show to one tune but the Theo, Dego & Akwasi remix of A Race Of Angels really is worth it, Parrish‘s Wild Heart recordings is just going from strength to strength. Read more…

Audio Texture Radio Show – March 31, 2014

We like a good cover version at Audio Texture but very few deliver, unlike the killer version of “Crazy” by Trio Valore, just about to drop on Record Kicks and sure to be making some waves over the summer if their is any justice. Read more…

Audio Texture Radio Show – March 10, 2014

A trio of quirky yet soulful electronic tunes got the show off to a fine start this week, kicking off with the wobbly, largely instrumental strains of Mr. Mitch closely followed by the vaguely disturbing vibes of James Ferraro before the slow burner, “Vapore” from Palmistry paved the way for the twisted UK hip hop of Strange U‘s ode to Africa. Soul, dub madness, hip hop and Brazil

Soul, dub madness, hip hop and Brazil dominate this weeks show kicking off with a track from the excellent debut album from Gabriel Garzon-Montana which has been on repeat all week and is highly recommended. Hollie Cook then took the soul and gave it a Prince Fatty riddim, look out for her new album coming on Mr. Bongo later this year. We couldn’t resist playing the kookly little dub from the new Kalbata & Mixmonster single which led into the crazy dub techno vibes of Martijn Comes, closely followed by the analogue dub vibes of “Robert Rental” a taster from Ekoplekz‘s excellent album coming in March on Planet Mu. Audio Texture Radio Show – February 17, 2014

A nice mish mash of styles this week which all seemed to segue together quite pleasingly kicking off with some sunshine jazz funk vibes from Brazil, courtesy of MUV before Aisha Mars supplied some deep, instrumental, soul music from the great Bamalovesoul compiled On Deck 2 from the BBE crew, a great little collection of fresh nu-soul flavours, mostly from artists I’ve never heard of, which makes it even better. Blludd Relations then dubbed up the Owiny Sigoma Band to good effect which led nicely into Jameszoo‘s unrecognisable remix of the great Awanto 3‘s Afro house banger, “Su What? which we previewed on last weeks show. Audio Texture Radio Show – January 13, 2014

So the radio show is back for 2014 after a bit of a hard drive meltdown near the end of last year and just the fact that, well, sometimes a  break is sometimes welcome. The show kicked off on a nice jazz tip with a killer version of The Jackson Sisters’ “I Believe in Miracles” from Eddie Roberts which took the original in a great new direction as a good cover version should do. Pugs Atomz the dropped some great funky hip hop vibes from their great new, stylistically diverse album, Bama Pi. Andrew Ashong then kept things simple but soulfully effective with “Special” before Zara McFarlane waded in with another killer cover version, this time of Junior Murvin’s (not Dennis Brown’s – as erroneously stated in the show in a moment of madness) “Police and Thieves” she really is a talent and a half. Audio Texture Radio Show – October 21, 2013

A nice soulful selection in a roundabout sort of way this week, a week when Boards of Canada have been releasing their back catalogue for all those slow on the draw the first time around. The new Om Unit album on Civil Music is a pleasant surprise with it’s pleasing musicality and some nice vocal touches, ably demonstrated by “The Road” featuring Charlie Dark. Some future hip hop then followed from Thriftworks and a track we plucked from the excellent new Project Mooncircle compilation showcasing artists new and old before The Poets of Rhythm reminded the show of their soul credentials.
