P023: Post-Sandwell District special.

In their ten years of operation the loose collective of artists that form the Sandwell District collective have risen from relative obscurity to leave an immediately recognizable mark at the core of modern techno. Combining industrial grit, violent and stark aesthetics and media subversion tactics, they have come to define not only modern electronica, but in many ways the modern age. It is somewhat fitting then that the label operations descended into chaos at their moment of triumph, the release of 2011’s “Feed Forward” album which is the starting point of this weeks show. Cabeza de Vaca picks up the pieces and traces the trajectory of each of the three main protagonists Function, Regis and Silent Servant and their associates, bringing their influence to bare and highlighting their recent work.

En sus diez años de funcionamiento, el colectivo de artistas que forman Sandwell District ha pasado de una relativa oscuridad para dejar una marca reconocible de inmediato en el centro del techno moderno. La combinación de actitud industrial, una estética cruda y de violencia combinado con las tácticas de subversión de los medios de comunicación han llegado a definir no sólo la electrónica moderna, pero en muchos aspectos de la edad moderna también. Es algo apropiado entonces que las operaciones del sello sumieron en el caos en su momento de triunfo, el lanzamiento en 2011 de «Feed Forward» el álbum que es el punto de partida del programa esta semana. Cabeza de Vaca recoge los pedazos y restos de la trayectoria de cada uno de los tres protagonistas principales, Function, Regis y Silent Servant y sus asociados, para hablar de su influencía y destacar su trabajo reciente.
